Tour Itinerary

Main Attractions

Freedom square

The square, also known as Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication, is the home of our Freedom Charter said our constitution was laid upon.

It was in 1955 when the people of multi-races came to meet her for an answer against the Apartheid government.

The apartheid government used a system of racial injustices or racial segregation. During this gathering, they came to the agreement of adopting the document famously known as the Freedom Charter.

The square is honored for such an achievement and the document is well preserved in this opened monument.

Regina Mundi Church

We point to the church while on the drive. Is a highly honored Catholic church for being devoted to openly opposing the systemized racial division.

Political organizations used the church for their gathering after being banned by the government from holding political gatherings.16th June 1976 led the students to seek safety in the church after clashed with the cops.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission established to deal and heal the wounds to the victims of racial injustice.

The church has been the main venue for the commission. If guests are interested to visit the church we reserve that room.

Hector Pieterson Museum and the Memorial

The Museum and Memorial is dedicated to the brave students who took the streets campaigning for educational rights.

The campaign went far beyond the educational one to the political arena.

On the 16th June 1976, they came to assemble at the site of the Museum and Memorial preparing to take the streets.

Named after Hector as he was the first to be shot and killed on the spot. Also, the youngest victim was to be killed on that day.

Spend the time in the museum to be equipped about the look of the day.

Whatever is to be seen here is all about the past and it is one of most events successfully forced the country and the world to hastily attend to the issues of the Apartheid system.

From this day South Africa would never be the same again. What happened here spread across the whole country and South Africa as a whole was in smoke.

Nelson Mandela House Museum

Situated to the heart of Soweto along the beloved Vilakazi street is a tiny house once belonged to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

He occupied the house in 1946 with his first married wife Evelyn Ntoko Mase.

Remember he married three times in his lifetime. Later on, they divorced and married for the second time to Winnie Nomzamo.

More about Mandela’s political background and life, in general, is found in this museum. Interestingly not far from here is a family house to Desmond Tutu.

The two iconic figures make the street so lively and creating an opportunity for some businesses. i.e. Africa crafts markets lined the street, different forms of entertainment, and some tourist pubs and restaurants.

Is viby in many ways, days and nights, to all nations of the globe.

About Soweto

Soweto dates back to 1904 soon after Newtown Junction suffered a Bubonic plague. Our ancestors came to work in gold mines in Johannesburg. Mixed from various regions of the country and the world, they had to live and work together sharing everything there.

Though their shelter was of a very humble status it was great for them. The spread of bubonic plague became a life threat and to combat the disease a means of burning down the area.

Before burning down the area survivors of the disease had to be removed. Allocation of land was much based on races and the 17 Kilometers to the Southwest of Johannesburg was recommended for the black people.

From there the issue of racial division tried to be accelerated. The informative tourist guide from his personal encounters and research will go further relating interesting and challenging facts about what made Soweto so famous.

Today it is a destination for almost everyone and everything. Influencing the country and continent in many ways.

Local music is nicely represented here, home to multi sports centers dominating in soccer, educational institutions from pre-school to tertiary, health facilities, religious institutions in diverse, many pubs and restaurants.

Shopping centers range from malls down to street vendors. All began from humble beginnings where the likes of many politicians, religious institutions fought tirelessly, compromised their lives, families, careers as well using Soweto as their base or headquarters.
