The Genesis of Nhlalala Travel
Nhlalala Travel was established in 2017 as a private company by Norman Mlambo, following years of hands-on experience as a professional tourist guide. Norman’s journey in tourism began in 2008 when he trained through the Services for Tourism Training Institute (STTI), qualifying as a tourist guide. By 2010, he committed to guiding on a full-time basis, gaining valuable experience while working with several respected tour operators across South Africa.
These years in the field helped shape a deep understanding of guest expectations, destination knowledge, and the importance of reliable, personalized service. This foundation naturally led to the creation of Nhlalala Travel—a company built on experience, passion, and a genuine love for sharing South Africa’s diverse landscapes, wildlife, and culture through well-curated tours, including safaris, scenic routes, and cultural experiences.
The name “Nhlalala” is proudly drawn from the Shangaan (Xitsonga) language and refers to a bird known in English as the Greater Honeyguide. In the bush, this bird is respected for guiding people to hidden treasures, a symbol that reflects the company’s role in leading travelers to meaningful and memorable experiences.
